Biography of Reverend Dr. T. Nathaniel Hercules 

                   Rev. Dr. T. Nathaniel Hercules’ life exemplifies his spiritual  commitment to serve others by his pastoral work and community outreach.  Working as a college dormitory counselor, Dr. Hercules began his path toward assisting those in need.  After graduation from college, Dr. Hercules taught in the Abbeville, South Carolina public school system.  He went on to impact the lives of many as a social worker for the Department of Public Housing in Brunswick, Georgia.  His success as a social worker was recognized when the Department of Public Housing promoted him to Social Services Director.  The Macon, Georgia public school system reached out to Dr. Hercules and he responded by taking the position of Career High School Counselor. 

                Born in Trinidad, West Indies, Dr. Hercules came to the United States as a young teenager.  Becoming a United States citizen, Dr. Hercules realized his commitment to furthering his education.  He earned his undergraduate degree from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina and his Master of Divinity degree was received at Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, Georgia.  Dr. Hercules continued his quest for knowledge by obtaining a Masters in Social Work at Atlanta University.  He received in Doctorate in Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. 

                Dr. Hercules is married to Sis. Charley Bell Hercules.  They have five children, and nine beautiful grandchildren.  Dr. Hercules was called to the ministry in 1959 and ordained as an Itinerant Elder in 1963.  He has served churches in South Carolina and Georgia since 1967.  His most recent assignment prior to coming to St. Paul was at St. Mark in Atlanta, Ga., where he spent seventeen (17) years. 

                In addition to his pastoral work, Dr. Hercules served as College Chaplain and instructor in World Religion at Morris Brown College for four years.  He also served two years as an Assistant Presiding Elder for the Waycross District.  Dr. Hercules is currently a member of the Board of Examiners of the Atlanta North Georgia Conference and has served on several Connectional & Episcopal committees in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.  He has been a delegate to the General Conference and member of the Connectional council since 1972.  Dr. Hercules is a member of the Concerned Black Clergy of Atlanta and a founding member of S.W.E.E.A.C. (a Christian Support Group for Families in Need in Southwest Atlanta). 

                Dr. Hercules’ dedication to social involvement is reflected in his membership in organizations committed to the change and improvement of all people.  A former Executive Board Member, Dr. Hercules is a sustaining member of Dekalb County N.A.A.C.P.  He also held membership in the Fulton County chapter and was vice-president of the Glynn County chapter in Brunswick, GA.  Dr. Hercules is a founding member of Quality Living Services (service for the elderly).  He is also a member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the Urban League, Democratic Party and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

First Lady ~ Charley Hercules 

                Our first lady, Mrs. Charley Bell Hercules, is a gifted educator with many years of service to children of Alabama and Georgia.  Born in Ramer, Alabama, she is the eldest of ten children nurtured by her parents to Charlie and Ethel Bell. 

                Mrs. Hercules graduated from Alabama State University with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.  She further completed her education with a M.S. degree in Elementary Education and Reading from Georgia State University.  Mrs. Hercules was a reading specialist in the Atlanta Public School System, and is currently retired after 31 years in public education. 

                She is the mother of two daughters, Mrs. Nicole Collins and Mrs. Teneka Taylor and the grandmother of Nicholas, Jalyn, Jeremy and Kennedy.  

                Active in the A.M.E. Church, She has served in various leadership roles including class leader, Board of Stewards, Courtesy Guild and Sunday School teacher.  She is a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Commission on Health and Wholeness here at St. Paul.

                Her activities outside the church include memberships in the International Reading Association, Georgia Educators Association, Order of Eastern Stars, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

               
Sister Hercules is a firm believer in God and strives daily to lead a good life.  She enjoys positive people who love the Lord and are self-starters.
